The ingredients can also be created from synthetic scents, which are produced in the laboratory to duplicate natural ingredients or scents that cannot obtain in nature. Ingredient finds in fragrance are used to create a fragrance that can be found in our daily lives. These ingredients include flowers, herbs, fruits, spices, and woods.

 Some individuals like to pick his or her fragrance by the notes. Fragrance notes are descriptors of odors that can be identified upon the application of the perfume. 

Top or headnotes are the ingredients that create the first impression, which can be smelled immediately upon application. Top or headnotes appear for only five to ten minutes. Middle or heart notes are the core or body ingredients. It emerges right after the top notes evaporate, and last for 20 to 30 minutes. 

Base notes are the hidden ingredients of the perfume. The base notes reveal itself once the middle notes die down, and appear for up two hours after the spray. Some base notes can last up to 24 hours after application. 

Last but not least there is the missing note, which is you. The influences of the body chemistry, skin, temperature, and other products individual wear to create a whole new scent. The same fragrance wore by your best friend does not smell the same on you.

 Types of Fragrance

The fragrance is divided into three types. Perfume or Parfum contains a 15 – 30 percent aroma compound, which will be the longest lasting. The price is the most expensive out of the three types of fragrance. Eau de Parfum (EDP) contains 8 – 15 percent of the aroma compound, which makes it long-wearing. EDP price is at the medium point, and it is a great investment for everyday wear. The least aroma compound would be Eau de Toilette (EDT), it only contains 4 – 8 percent. So it is not very long-lasting, which need to be sprayed more and reapply often. Eau de Toilette is the cheapest compare with Parfum or Eau de Parfum.

 Fragrance size based on Types

The fragrance also comes in a different size. Rollerball is the smallest size, which is great for on the go and use for reapplication. There is also a 1 oz., which is great for users who like to own a fragrance wardrobe. Not every fragrance comes in a Rollerball and 1 oz. One of the most popular sizes is 1.7 oz., and the biggest size would be 3.0 oz. The price differences between the sizes are usually around $15 – $20. Some companies also create fragrances set. The set includes 1.7 or a 3.4 oz., body lotion, and a shower gel.


The fragrance is all about fun so there is no right or wrong when it comes to picking one. It’s great to own more than one option or have one as your significant scents. Just keep in mind that fragrances do go spoil if you don’t store it correctly. Keep your fragrance in a cool, dark place away from extreme heat, light, or humidity. Always keep the top on after each use. 

When you notice that your fragrance turns darker or thicken with a sour smell, it is time to replace it with a new one. Never spray your fragrance directly onto your clothes because it will cause staining or damage. Instead, spray it a couple of times into the air in front of you, the walk toward it. The best place to apply fragrance is a pulse point, such as wrists, elbows, and collar bone. Always transfer your fragrance from one wrist to another by blotting them together, never use a rubbing motion.
